Construction work on the premises of the company Betonbau BBD GmbH has officially begun. Thomas Sachers and Volker Knott (both Betonbau), Oliver Grabowsky (Managing Director BREMER Karlsruhe) and Lord Mayor Thomas Deuschle took part in the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the investment project costing a total of 16 million euros. The specialist for technical buildings in the form of factory-ready room cells made of reinforced concrete is building a modern and sustainable production hall with an adjoining office extension at the company's headquarters in Waghäusel. "With the modern and sustainable new building, we are expanding our production capacities. This means that we are also excellently positioned for further growth", says a delighted Volker Knott, plant manager for metal construction at Betonbau BBD GmbH.

Betonbau BBD GmbH is expanding its production capacities in Waghäusel. On Tuesday, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place (from left to right: Oliver Grabowsky (Managing Director BREMER Karlsruhe), Mayor Thomas Deuschle, Volker Knott (Betonbau) and Thomas Sachers (Managing Director Betonbau)).

The general contractor BREMER Karlsruhe GmbH plans to hand over the two-story new building ready for use as early as October of this year. Door elements, ventilation grilles and pressure relief systems will then be manufactured from aluminum in the new production hall. The heart of the production will be a highly automated laser stamping and bending line. Another part of the area will be used for an automated bar profile storage system linked to three profile machining centers. In total, the new building provides space for over 100 workplaces in production as well as 30 office workplaces.

"Betonbau BBD GmbH has been an important employer in Waghäusel for 60 years. We are very pleased about the clear commitment to the production site. The investment of this amount also shows the attractiveness of our business location," says Waghäusel's mayor Thomas Deuschle.

Preparatory work is already in full swing

Foundation work is currently underway on the 81,458 m² existing site. The basement of the office building is also already being built. "We will assemble the buildings from precisely fitting prefabricated reinforced concrete elements, which we produce in advance in our own plants. In this way, we can take individual customer requirements into account and at the same time ensure a short construction period," describes BREMER project manager Rafael Wawrzynczyk.

The 5,919 m² production hall offers plenty of daylight for a pleasant working environment for the employees thanks to generous light bands in the hall roof, large sectional doors and high-speed doors as well as light segments. In total, the production hall will measure 40 x 120 m and can be used almost column-free due to its construction. In the office area, several offices as well as meeting rooms and social areas will be created.

Focus on sustainability

From the very beginning, Betonbau BBD GmbH has attached great importance to sustainability. "We want to protect natural resources. Therefore, we have also attached great importance to sustainability in the selection of building materials. A photovoltaic system with higher-level building control technology will also be installed on the hall roof, which will allow us to generate most of our required energy ourselves and use it optimally," says Volker Knott.

The office area will have a green roof and modern heat pump systems will be used for cooling and heating the buildings, which will also utilize the waste heat from the compressor system in a resource-saving manner. For the insulation, a more expensive but environmentally friendly mineral wool was chosen. The sheet metal facade chosen is not only recyclable, but also provides employees with a good working climate in summer thanks to the heat protection.

Sustainability has also been taken further in the mobility concept: For employees who come to work by bike, covered bicycle parking spaces are being created in the outdoor area. Wall boxes are being installed for e-mobility. The forklift trucks and lifting equipment are completely powered by electric technology.
