Organic waste is converted into biogas (landfill or methane gas) in a biogas plant which serves the gas motor (aggregate) as an energy source. The energy generated (power and heat) can be used in part in the plant itself and also supplied to the public supply network.
The positive characteristics of concrete structures enable their use as an aggregate housing, particularly with regard to the high level of sound insulation, compressive strength and long service life.
Thermal output governed by the cogeneration principle requires a local installation. This, in turn, requires visual integration of the plant in the local surroundings through adaptation of the structure. High sound insulation requirements must also be met.
The concrete biogas plant illustrated shows a housing for aggregates that achieves a sound insulation benchmark value of approx. 47db. Higher requirements can be met through thicker walls and ceilings and the realisation of further insulation measures. In applications such as the use of a 500kW aggregate, this sound-absorbing structure achieves the specified sound limit values of 65 d at a distance of 10m without further measures (site limit / technical manual for sound protection). The mean interior level for the concrete building is, for example, measured at 105db (A).
2MW aggregates can also be housed in a building of this type by combining several modular units.
The concrete seamless-structured building is installed directly from the transportation vehicle as a complete unit on the prepared foundation support.
The roof slab is fitted after installation of equipment elements, the chimney and the aggregate by plant installation technicians.
The sunken flat roof is designed to house equipment segments, heat exchangers and ventilation attachments. Support surfaces, recesses and foundation curbs are integrated.
Double-walled steel doors are use with sound insulation characteristics conforming to DIN EN 20140.
A removable wall segment in the gable enables changing of the aggregate. Removal of the roof element in conjunction with equipment dismantling is therefore not necessarily a requirement.
A premounted steel girder located below the ceiling enables easy suspension of lifting tackle for maintenance purposes.
The Betonbau structure meets current safety standards for biogas plants as stipulated by the German association for biogas (Fachverband Biogas e.V.) and confroms to DIN 4102 for fire protection, water management law § 19 and DIN 1045-2 for concrete quality.
Retrofitting of a concrete housing cover to a construction project already realised in another style is possible where sound levels are exceeded.
